Earthquake Insurance
Earthquake insurance is NOT provided in the typical homeowners policy. If the only insurance you have for your home is homeowners insurance, you may be unprepared for the consequences of an earthquake.
The USGS estimates that several million earthquakes occur in the world each year. Many go undetected because they hit remote areas or have very small magnitudes. The NEIC now locates about 50 earthquakes each day, or about 20,000 a year. Between 1990 and 1999, there were 9 earthquakes in the U.S of 7.0 magnitude or greater, 5 of which occurred in California.
